As the BikingToronto Community gains members and spurs on more and more discussion, it's a good idea to lay down some "ground rules" in order to ensure that the Community develops into a place that fosters intelligent and productive discussion and networking.
General Conduct:
This is a "social network for cyclists in Toronto"... and accordingly, being social refers to the ability to get along with other people, whether they agree with your viewpoints or not.
Constructive Attitudes:
It's okay to be peeved about things, but a consistent negative attitude is neither constructive nor a pleasure to be around. This is not to say that negative posts/viewpoints aren't allowed, but that they should be used as opportunities to discuss solutions. In short, the Community is not a place for complaining for it's own sake.
Interacting with Others:
Everyone should know the Golden Rule by now - but in case you don't, treat others as you want them to treat you. Any posts that are offensive, hateful, or are personal attacks will be deleted. Any member who consistently gets posts deleted will be banned from the Community.
Watch your Language:
Swearing can be fun, but isn't necessary. Think of your kids or your parents reading what you write on the Community. Adjust your language accordingly.
Have Fun:
The Community is here for you to meet, network and interact with other cyclists in Toronto. Since biking in Toronto is so much fun, discussing it should be fun too. Take things seriously, but don't take them *too* seriously. :)
Do you have ideas for Community Guidelines not covered here?
