View Larger Map" /">" /"> The city of Toronto cannot seem to create enough cycling lanes in the city.
If we could connect and share all of our favorite cycling routes that happen on sidestreets and alleyways (in addition to the current bike lanes) then we could have a fairly comprehensive cycling map of Toronto. Then maybe we could convince the city that to change some streets to two ways for cyclists, but not for cars, we could allow cyclists safer passage and cleaner air on the sidestreets and reduce the complexity for can traffic on the major streets.
Here's a google map of some of my favorite sidestreet routes - it is set up as a public map that anyone can edit. Please add your favorite sidestreet routes.
near the train tracks that is not a mistake. There is a hotel, and I cut through the parking lot. Though, this is somewhat useless because the humber river can be taken instead.
and on the days that I am paranoid, but don't want to take the lake to get downtown
I must say though, the effort required to ride that is far beyond the effort along bloor. around the old mill, there is one hill, that I occasionally walk even as an avid cyclist. and it's like... 4 mins afters leaving my house.. I am out of breath fast. very lame in the mornings. Further, in the high park area there are a gazilion stop signs. I'm sorry, I try and be a good cyclist. but. I just can't stop at all of them. I am already adding lots of time to the route, and another half an hour to my sleep to make up for the ride. I am going to defer the blame to the crazy motorists who occasionally scare me off bloor and the city for not providing a better east-west route.
yess! I just moved to town and I have to say the painted lines on major streets are a pretty sad excuse for a bike lane a lot of the time. I will contribute once I know the city a bit better, though my favorite side-streets so far have already been added :) thanks for doing this!
