At the Spring Bike Show I picked up a new road bike to replace my '04 Specialized Allez Elite... so now the question is, "What should I do with it?" Strip it and convert it to a city bike? Sell it - what's it worth? Thoughts?

That's a great road bike
depending on how it runs, see what you can get for it on Craigslist or Kijiji.
or if you can afford to, have Set Me Free see what they can do with it:
http://setmefree.ca/contact_information.htm
Also, the City of Toronto Solid Waste Management will often act as an intermediary and help people get their recently replaced and no longer used equipment to those people in need:
http://www.toronto.ca/reuseit/orgs.htm - check near the bottom of the page for organizations that get used bikes to people who need em.
hope that helps
happy riding.

hmmm I overlooked the fact that's an 04, and just googled it.. and it's got a bit of a compact frame design... but shmeh! DOO IT.. hehe

meh... can always go single speed, or use it for arronds, and bad areas of town.

It runs great - just like new as I take in it for regular service!

I've thought about selling it but I'm having a hard time with the idea of parting with it.

The thought of making it into a fixie, or just a single/three speed city bike keep popping up, but I don't know if it is worth the hassle. As much as I claim to be mechanically inclined, I still prefer to just pay someone else to do the grunt work!

heh, in reality, changing a perfectly good bike to a fixie would be blasphemous to an extent. heh

Yeah, some interesting stuff happens with alignment and all that in a conversion... you could have mentioned any bike, and I would have said make it a fixie. :P

I'd just keep it as is.

I have kept my XC bike and my Dirt Jump bike, rarely use em, but fun to take out from time to time.

I'm to cheap to sell em too. As I would feel cheated by getting anything less than what I paid for them.. and considering the one is around 04 and the other must be 02ish... I'm not going to be getting much for them.

Spare bike is always good too, when one breaks or w/e

Hi Chris,

Are you still thinking of selling your bike? If so I'm looking to get back into riding (been a while)

Thanks,
Shawn

Hi Shawn...

It's out on a long term loan to a friend who's riding with me in the Ride To Conquer Cancer. After the ride it may be back on the selling block, but right now it's not.
